What is Google Cloud consulting?

Google Cloud consulting is outside help deciding what runs on Google Cloud, how it is organized and governed, and what it should cost, ending in a roadmap for what changes and in what order.

Google publishes the yardstick: the Google Cloud Well-Architected Framework, with six pillars from operational excellence and security to cost optimization and sustainability. Governance sits in the resource hierarchy, where access granted on a folder flows to every project in it. Cost is set by choices such as committed use discounts, which can't be canceled once bought, and by budgets, which alert but don't stop spending.

Key outcomes

Multi-cloud strategy alignment

Which workloads belong on Google Cloud and which stay on AWS or Azure, and the Google products that work across them.

Architecture & governance recommendations

Measured against Google's Well-Architected Framework, with folders, projects and IAM roles set so access follows how you're organized.

Tool and platform rationalization

What you run and pay for today, where tools overlap, and which ones can be retired.

Cost modeling + optimization

A cost of ownership estimate before you move; budgets, commitments and Google's savings recommendations after.

Roadmaps for modernization

What changes in what order, so migration, data and AI work are sequenced instead of competing.

Google Cloud alongside AWS or Azure

Google's own products for working across clouds, and one that's being shut down.

If you need toGoogle's productWhat to know
Query data in Amazon S3 or Azure Blob StorageBigQuery OmniThe data stays where it is; six AWS regions and one Azure region; Enterprise edition or on-demand pricing

Cost modeling + optimization

Cost controls on Google Cloud, and their limits

Google gives you the controls. Knowing what each one does, and doesn't do, is most of cost optimization.

BudgetsAlerts, not a capA budget emails you as spend crosses its thresholds, but it doesn't stop usage or charges.
Spend capsA hard stop, on some servicesWhere a service supports it, a spend cap budget pauses that service until you lift the cap.
CommitmentsDiscounts you can't cancelCommitted use discounts run one or three years and are billed whether you use the resources or not.

How West Liberty Foods got a cloud adoption roadmap

West Liberty Foods ran on a mix of loosely connected applications, from Google Workspace and two ERP tools to a CRM and a time and attendance system. Through its Business Innovation Services process, Suitebriar spoke with each team, documented their business processes and the software behind them, and identified 150 process improvements, now a prioritized list West Liberty is working through.

“Since this experience, we’ve started a Cloud-first mentality. We’re not going to have platforms on-prem. We’re not going to spin up new projects in-house, in our data center. We’re going to spin up projects in Google Workspace or in Google Compute Engine.”

Google Cloud consulting FAQ

What IT and finance leads ask Google Cloud consultants before they commit.

Running more than one cloud, or planning to?

Tell us what you run today and where, and we'll talk through what belongs on Google Cloud.

Should we run on one cloud or several?

It depends on where your data, applications and skills already are. A second cloud doesn't mean moving everything: Google's BigQuery Omni queries data in Amazon S3 or Azure Blob Storage where it sits, and Cross-Cloud Interconnect links the networks. The strategy decides which workloads gain from moving and which don't.

What is the Google Cloud Well-Architected Framework?

Google's recommendations for designing and running workloads on Google Cloud, in six pillars: operational excellence; security, privacy and compliance; reliability; cost optimization; performance optimization; and sustainability. An architecture review measures your environment against it.

Will a budget stop us overspending?

No. A Cloud Billing budget sends alerts as spend crosses its thresholds, but Google says it doesn't cap usage or spending. Some services support a spend cap budget, which pauses the service until you lift the cap.

Should we buy committed use discounts?

Only for usage you're sure of. Commitments run one or three years, can't be canceled once bought, and are billed whether you use the resources or not, so they come after rightsizing, not before.

Is a cloud strategy the same as a migration plan?

No. A cloud strategy covers everything you run, on one cloud or several: architecture, governance, cost and a roadmap. Planning the move of specific workloads is Cloud Migration Consulting, and the move itself is GCP Design & Migration.
