What does managed IT cover on Google?

The parts Google leaves to you: first-line support for your users and admins, a plan for recovering systems and data after an incident, and copies of your data that outlast Google's own restore windows.

Google keeps Google Workspace running under a 99.9% monthly uptime SLA, and Basic support for every Google Cloud customer covers documentation, community support and billing; one-to-one technical support comes with its paid plans. With a partner, your people contact the partner first and the partner takes platform issues to Google. Deleted Gmail and Drive data can be restored for up to 55 days (30 in the trash, then 25 for an admin) and a deleted user for 20, so recovery and backup have to be planned before they're needed.

Santa Cruz Bicycles: a Google partner for support and more

Santa Cruz Bicycles has run on Google since adopting G Suite in 2008. IT Manager Kevin Clark turned to Suitebriar for a licensing assessment and help with groups, Google Meet and Google Apps Manager (GAM), and Suitebriar went on to build the company's LumApps employee community, ready on day one of its new HR platform.

How the three fit together

  1. Day to day: managed supportYour users and admins contact Suitebriar first; platform issues go to Google support.
  2. Before an incident: a recovery planRecovery targets for each system, backup and retention, redundancy for Google Cloud workloads, and playbooks tested in simulations.
  3. After a deletion: backup and restoreRecent deletions come back through Google's own trash and admin restore; older ones from a backup copy.

Managed IT & support FAQ

What IT leads ask when deciding which of the three they need.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us what you run on Google and what's prompting the question, and we'll point you to the right first step.

Which of these do we need first?

It depends on what's hurting. If your team spends its time on Workspace and Google Cloud tickets, start with managed support. If an outage or an attack would stop the business, start with a recovery plan. If people have lost mail or files they couldn't get back, start with backup.

How is backup different from disaster recovery?

Backup gets back specific things that were deleted: a message, a folder, a departed employee's account. Disaster recovery plans how whole systems and their data come back after an outage or an attack, and how long each can be down. Most organizations need both, and the recovery plan says where backup fits.

What does Google already cover?

Google runs the infrastructure: Google Workspace has a 99.9% monthly uptime SLA, and Google Cloud's Basic support covers documentation, community support and billing. It also keeps deleted data recoverable for a limited time. First-line support for your people, a recovery plan and copies beyond Google's windows are left to you or a partner.
